Data Security

Last Updated: September 27, 2026

VocalRangeCalculator.com provides browser-based tools that may process microphone input, audio, pitch information, vocal test results, and user preferences. This page explains how those features handle information and what you can do to control access to your microphone and locally stored data.

VocalRangeCalculator.com is independently operated by Conan Jon. Our approach is to limit unnecessary data handling, process audio locally in your browser, and describe the differences between microphone access, browser storage, analytics, advertising, and normal website infrastructure.

No website, browser, server, network, or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. This page describes our current practices without making unsupported security guarantees.

Our Approach to Data Security

We aim to apply reasonable safeguards appropriate to the website and its features. Our general approach includes:

  • Limiting unnecessary information collection
  • Processing audio locally in your browser in every current tool
  • Not recording or uploading microphone audio
  • Avoiding external audio-analysis APIs
  • Keeping vocal results separate from Google Analytics and advertising
  • Giving users control over browser microphone permissions
  • Explaining relevant limitations clearly
  • Reviewing reported privacy and security concerns

Our current tools share the same audio-handling approach, although their features differ, for example live microphone input versus an audio file you choose.

Microphone Permission

Some tools require microphone access to detect live audio, pitch, frequency, musical notes, or vocal-range boundaries.

Your browser should request permission before allowing a tool to access your microphone. You can approve or deny this request. If you deny access, the relevant microphone-based tool may not work, but you can continue using pages and tools that do not require live microphone input.

Microphone access generally depends on a secure HTTPS connection and the controls provided by your browser and device. Many browsers display an indicator when a website is actively using the microphone, although the appearance and behavior of that indicator may vary.

You can usually revoke previously granted microphone access through your browser’s privacy, permission, or site settings.

Granting microphone permission does not automatically mean that:

  • Every tool records your voice
  • Every tool uploads audio
  • A permanent recording is created
  • Audio is shared with an external analysis provider
  • Your microphone remains active after the tool session ends

Our current tools do none of these. They analyse the live signal in your browser and stop using the microphone when you stop the tool or close the page.

How Our Tools Process Audio

Our microphone-based tools, from the vocal range calculator to the pitch and note detectors, use local browser processing.

Local Browser Processing

Our tools analyze microphone input locally within your browser. Audio-related calculations occur on your device instead of sending the audio to our server or an external audio-analysis service.

Local processing may be used for tasks such as:

  • Detecting pitch or frequency
  • Converting frequency to a musical note
  • Identifying high and low notes
  • Calculating vocal-range boundaries
  • Displaying a recent result
  • Estimating octave or semitone span

Local processing means the audio itself does not need to leave your device. However, it does not mean that no website-related information is processed elsewhere. Your browser still communicates with our hosting infrastructure to load pages and resources, Google Analytics 4 may process general website usage information, and ads served through Journey by Mediavine load from their servers.

Audio Files, Result Images, and Share Links

The note detector can also analyse an audio file you choose (MP3, WAV, M4A, or OGG, up to 25 MB; the first two minutes are analysed). The file is read and decoded by your browser and is not uploaded to our server.

Other features that create or share a result also stay on your device:

  • A vocal range result image is drawn in your browser and saved directly to your device
  • Copy buttons place a text result on your clipboard only when you press them
  • Share links from the vocal range calculator and the frequency to note converter carry the result after the # sign, which browsers do not send to our server when the page loads
  • We do not currently send audio to an external audio-analysis API

On September 27, 2026, we checked the code of all 11 current tools: none of them contains code that records audio or sends audio or results to a server. Users should also review any instructions or notices shown on the specific tool page for feature-specific information.

For a broader explanation of our tools, visit our How It Works page.

Tool Results and Derived Information

A tool may calculate or estimate information such as:

  • Detected notes
  • Pitch or frequency
  • Lowest and highest detected notes
  • Vocal-range boundaries
  • Octave or semitone span
  • Estimated voice-type overlap
  • Register-related results

We do not currently send calculated vocal results to Google Analytics. We also do not use them to create advertising profiles or make legal, employment, financial, medical, or similarly significant decisions.

Results are shown in the open page and are not saved to our server. Our tools do not currently store them in your browser’s localStorage either.

Vocal results can be influenced by microphone quality, background noise, room acoustics, browser behavior, singing technique, and other factors. A result that appears precise should not automatically be treated as a professional or clinical assessment.

Browser Local Storage

VocalRangeCalculator.com tools do not currently use browser localStorage, sessionStorage, or cookies. Websites can use browser storage to remember information such as:

  • Recent results
  • Tool settings
  • User preferences
  • Values used to restore a previous tool state

localStorage is held within your browser profile on your device. It is different from a VocalRangeCalculator.com user account or a central server-side profile. We do not currently offer user accounts.

Locally stored information may remain after you close the page or browser. It may be removed when:

  • You clear cookies and site data
  • The relevant tool replaces or removes it
  • Your browser deletes it
  • You use private or incognito browsing
  • You switch browsers or devices
  • Your browser settings automatically remove stored data

You can generally delete locally stored information by clearing site data for VocalRangeCalculator.com through your browser settings.

Because this information may exist only on your device, we may be unable to access, export, correct, or delete it remotely. Browser storage should not be treated as a secure place for passwords, medical records, or other sensitive information.

For more details, read our Cookies Policy.

Hosting and Server Information

VocalRangeCalculator.com is hosted by Hostinger. Like most hosting providers, Hostinger’s infrastructure may process technical information required to deliver and secure the website.

This may include:

  • IP address
  • Requested page or resource
  • Date and time of the request
  • Browser or device information
  • User-agent information
  • Server logs
  • Error logs
  • Security-related logs

These technical records are different from calculated vocal results and microphone audio. We do not describe the website as having “zero data collection” because normal website operation generally requires some technical information to pass through hosting and network infrastructure.

Hosting, server, and security logs may be retained according to operational, troubleshooting, security, and provider requirements.

Google Analytics 4

VocalRangeCalculator.com uses Google Analytics 4, commonly known as GA4, to understand general website traffic and usage.

Google Analytics may process information such as:

  • Page views
  • Session and engagement statistics
  • Browser and device information
  • Approximate geographic location
  • Referring sources
  • Website interactions
  • Cookies or similar identifiers

We use this information to evaluate website performance, identify technical or usability issues, and improve our tools and content.

We do not send microphone audio or calculated vocal results to Google Analytics.

Google Analytics operates through Google’s infrastructure and is subject to Google’s applicable terms, security controls, and privacy practices. Analytics security should not be confused with the separate processing performed by our voice tools.

Advertising

Ads on VocalRangeCalculator.com are served by Journey by Mediavine. Their scripts load from their own servers and may use cookies and similar identifiers under Journey by Mediavine’s own security and privacy practices. Our tools do not pass microphone audio or vocal results to them.

More information about our use of GA4 is available in our Privacy Policy and Cookies Policy.

Email and Support Security

When you contact us, your message is processed through the email systems used to send, receive, and store correspondence.

Contact and support emails are generally retained for up to 12 months after an inquiry is resolved. Information may be retained longer when reasonably necessary for an ongoing security matter, legal requirement, dispute, or legal claim.

Ordinary email may not be appropriate for highly sensitive information. Please do not send:

  • Passwords
  • Payment card details
  • Government identification documents
  • Complete medical records
  • Unnecessary audio recordings
  • Other confidential information unrelated to your request

We do not currently provide user accounts or accept payments through VocalRangeCalculator.com, so we should not need your account password or payment information.

How You Can Protect Your Information

You remain in control of several browser and device settings. Depending on your browser, you can:

  • Deny microphone access
  • Revoke previously granted microphone permission
  • Choose a different microphone where supported
  • Stop an active microphone session
  • Close or reload the relevant page
  • Clear cookies and stored site data
  • Use private or incognito browsing
  • Use manual-input tools where available
  • Keep your browser and operating system updated
  • Avoid untrusted browser extensions and software

Browser menus and permission controls vary by device. If a tool cannot access your microphone or behaves unexpectedly, visit our Troubleshooting page.

Security Limitations

We take data security seriously, but no system can eliminate every risk. We do not guarantee that:

  • The website can never be compromised
  • Information can never be intercepted
  • Browser storage carries no risk
  • Third-party scripts, such as analytics and advertising, can never experience a security problem
  • Every browser and device behaves identically
  • Every tool has the same security characteristics
  • Internet transmission is completely risk-free

Your device, browser configuration, installed extensions, network, and email account are outside our direct control. You should take reasonable precautions when using any online tool.

We do not claim security certifications, independent audits, encryption standards, penetration tests, or monitoring systems that have not been verified and implemented.

Data Security and Tool Accuracy

Data security and measurement accuracy are different issues.

A tool may operate through a secure connection while still producing an inaccurate or incomplete result. Microphone quality, background noise, vocal technique, recording level, room acoustics, and browser processing can affect measurements.

Online tools should be used as educational aids, not as substitutes for professional vocal, medical, or clinical evaluation.

For more information, read our Vocal Range Test Accuracy page and Disclaimer.
